In June 2020, we will be offering a two-week Chinese language program that is being co-sponsored by the Confucius Institute in Western Kentucky. Lunch, snacks, and classroom supplies will be provided.
Native Chinese teachers with the Confucius Institute will engage students in an immersion program with a fresh curriculum focusing not only on language content but useful language skills with a robust infusion of culture, activities, and special events.
The Confucius Institute in Western Kentucky has been operating since 2010 and, since then, has been placing teachers from China in K-12 schools throughout Kentucky. It serves as a regional hub for Chinese teacher training and curriculum development.
Every summer, Asia Institute-Crane House sends English teachers to China to help students there get a better understanding of our culture and to practice their language skills with native speakers. We believe that this has been a rewarding experience for both the teachers we send and the students they teach in China. The teachers who will be in our summer program classrooms are from Mainland China and are native speakers of Mandarin. We hope that this provides a similarly rich environment for our summer program students in Kentuckiana.
