An intensive 3-week program to develop verbal,
written, aural/oral language skills for Mandarin Chinese and to expand Chinese
cultural experiences. For high school students in rising 7th through 12th grades
who are highly motivated to learn Chinese in an immersion program setting.

Japan-America Friendship Program 2008
Kentucky will host over 200 Japanese visitors from October 22 to October 29, 2008. Host families are needed from October 24 to October 27.

Speakers Coming Up
1. Adesina Laude: Mr. Laude is managing director at VanceInfo-one China's largest software companies. He will be speaking on Asian property and copyright issues.
2.HankCrumpton:Mr. Crumpton was formerly with the CIA and is now an Ambassador with the State Department specializing on counter terrorism.
3. Koan Jeff Baysa: Dr. Baysa is curator of the Chinese in America museum and has an extensive background in Asian art, in addition to maintaing a full time medical proactive.
4. Robert Lang: Mr. Lang, a former NASA employee, mathmatician and physicist has become the worlds leading origami artist. He will be presenting technical and artistic seminars.
5. Yong-Chin Lu: Dr. Lu, a professor at Ohio State, organized the world's largest Asian festival in Columbus, Ohio. He is coming to speak and assist with organizing a Louisville festival.
6. Virginia Kramsky: Ms. Kramisky heads the chinese Institute in New York City and will be sharing her experiences and vision for the future.
7. Arthur Dong: Mr. Dong is a leading Hollywood producer and recently completed the movie Hollywood Chinese. He will be speking in conjunction with the films Louisville debut.

Mandarin Preschool Classes
Mandarin Preschool Classes Class dates and times to be announced. For more details or to register a child for any of the following ECC sessions, please contact the ECC Director, Tiffany Kramer at tajkramer@netscape.net or (502) 225-4697.

ECC 1 Introduces the most commonly spoken language in the world using an interactive, hands-on approach specifically designed for children ages 2-5 with a parent. Word groups in a common preschoolers' vocabulary of pets, numbers, body parts, colors, and household items are taught.
ECC 2 Expands on the most commonly spoken language using skills gained from ECC 1. Word groups of eating utensils, kids' toys, clothing, farm animals, measuring opposites, and transportation are taught.
ECC 3 Teaches word groups of foods and drink, opposites, zoo animals, fruits, body parts 2, and nature.
ECC 4 Teaches word groups of face, seasons, weather, bedtime, house, and birthday.
ECC 5 Teaches word groups of foods 2, music, five senses, family members, balls, and meal times.
Private Group Classes- These classes may be set up at the location, time, and days of your choice if you have a group of 5 or more children to attend. Please contact the MPS Director if interested.
Day Care/Preschool Classes- Special combination ECC 1 & ECC 2 classes and ECC 3 & ECC 4 classes have been designed to accommodate the setting and number of students in these environments. Please contact the MPS Director if interested.

How are classes structured?
Each class has been designed to include a song, review of the previous lesson, introduction of new words, a craft, games/activities, and a review of current lesson.
What is the student to teacher ratio?
Classes have a minimum of 5 students with a maximum of 7 students, except in day care/preschool settings.
Who teaches the classes?
A fluent Chinese speaker who is also fluent in English teaches each class.
Where are classes held?
Most classes are held at Crane House, while day care/preschool classes are held at their respective sites, and private classes are held at an arranged location.
How much does it cost?
For one student and his/her parent(s) the cost is $60 for Crane House members and $65 for non-members. There is a special multi-family discounted fee of $60 per student if 2 or more children in a family are enrolled in the same session. This covers the cost of one student-parent(s) group, 6 classes, take-home handouts that list the Chinese, English, Pinyin version for each word presented, supplies for 6 crafts, materials for games/activities, a student completed review sticker book or set of flashcards, an audio learning CD with all 6 lessons.
