Mandarin Chinese

Beginning Mandarin Chinese

Winter Class-Monday, February 8 - May 17, 2010

6:30-7:30 pm

Introduction to Mandarin, the modern spoken national language of China. Students focus on vocabulary, basic grammar, and conversation, with an emphasis on pronunciation, speaking, and listening skills through oral/aural drills and exercises. There is limited study of written characters and the Pinyin romanization system. Relevant cultural content is introduced. All course materials are included in the course fee. The instructor is a native Mandarin speaker with multiple years of teaching experience.

Prerequisites:
No previous Chinese skills necessary
Suitability:
Age 16 to Adult. Appropriate for general interest, travel, corporate/business-related, continuing education, and college-prep
Course location:
Crane House
Course frequency:
1 hour per week; 15 sessions.
Course fee:
$200 member. $240 non-member. Fee includes all course materials. Payment is due by the first day of class. Cash/check/credit card
Early termination:
Prorated refund of all untaken classes if course is dropped on or before the 5th class. 20% refund of all untaken classes if the course is dropped on or after 6th class.

Advanced Mandarin Chinese
Winter Class-Monday, February 8- May 17, 2010

5:30-6:30 pm

Continued development of language skills, with special emphasis on speaking Mandarin, the spoken national language of China. Students focus on additional vocabulary, special expressions, grammar, and conversation, with an emphasis on improving pronunciation, speaking, and listening skills through oral/aural drills and exercises. There is increased study of written characters and the Pinyin romanization system. Relevant cultural content is introduced. All course materials are included in the course fee. The instructor is a native Mandarin speaker with multiple years of teaching experience.

Prerequisites:
Some knowledge of Mandarin, or Beginning Mandarin course, or by permission of instructor.
Suitability:
Age 16 to Adult. Appropriate for general interest, travel, corporate/business-related, continuing education, and college-prep.
Course location:
Crane House
Course frequency:
1 hour per week; 15 sessions.
Course fee:
$200 member. $240 non-member. Fee includes all course materials. Payment is due by the first day of class. Cash/check/credit card.
Early termination:
Prorated refund of all un taken classes if course is dropped on or before 5th class. 20% refund of all un taken classes if the course is dropped on or after 6th class.

Tutorial - Mandarin Chinese

Short-term, individualized courses are available by request. Course content is custom-suited to the client's language ability, needs, and interests. All course materials are included in the course fee. Instructors are native speakers with years of teaching experience.

Mature-age-12 to Adult. Appropraite for general interest, travel, corporate/business-related, continuing education, and college-prep.
Course location:
Crane House or alternate location
Schedule:
Choice of 1 hour per session or ½-hour per session. Class schedule and location are arranged by the client and instructor.
Course fee:
$35 per 1-hour session. $25 per ½-hour session. Fee includes all course materials. Full payment due at each class session. Cash or check only.
Early termination:
No fee for termination, but advance notice is required by instructor.
